How Big is Baby?
Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby’s skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature (thebump.com).
Your baby’s sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don’t be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.
Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid (babycenter.com).
How I’m Feeling Physically
Physically I’m still feeling pretty good. I’m definitely in nesting mode. I’ve had a lot of headaches this week, but think they are mostly due to allergies. I’ve started noticing a little lower back discomfort when I wake up, but it usually goes away once I’m up and about and moving around. Also I’ve notice my bump is growing really fast. I swear I can go to bed and wake up the next day and it has grown. I don’t know how it happens but it does. I think I had someone guess I was pregnant this week. They looked at me and said congrats with a little hesitation in their voice. Once I said thanks, they seemed relieved that they guessed right! The growing stomach is taking on a life of its own (literally too) and other people are starting to notice! Also this week, I’ve started to feel definitive kicks. Yesterday, I felt what I thought was a kick. I told Keith and he put his hand on my stomach and to our surprise the baby kicked again. He asked if I felt a kick right after I felt one from the inside. It was a pretty cool experience and I’m so happy he was able to experience feeling his little girl for the first time! : )
How I’m Feeling Emotionally
Emotionally I’m feeling great! Finding out the baby’s gender was probably the best day of my life along with my wedding day! It is such a huge advantage knowing we are having a baby girl and I can finally start planning the nursery and buying some baby clothes! I’ve only bought the baby a few little outfits and can’t wait to get to Minnesota and go crazy! Another fun thing that happened this week was deciding on the baby’s name. We’ve had a girls name in the back of our minds for a while now. Okay, I’ve had it planned for years, but Keith actually really loves the name too. When I heard we were having a girl, I knew before we settled on that particular name we needed to do some internet searches and make sure we were still 100% in love with the baby’ girls name we’ve had picked out for a while. I didn’t want another name we love even more to go overlooked. After we looked online, we knew for sure that our name is perfect for us as parents and even more perfect for our little girl. As much as I’d love to share it with all of you, we are keeping it a secret until she is born. If we can hold out that long! :)
- Weight Gain: About 7-7.5lbs
- Cravings: Fresh fruit still tops my list. Also, toasted English muffins topped with peanut butter and raspberry jelly. It feels weird to finally be eating peanut butter again and I love it!
- Workouts Per Week: 4-5
- Feeling lots of baby flutters and kicks right after I eat toast with PB&J! :) Baby Conrad loves PB&J! Seriously it is the only thing I have noticed she kicks after!
- Number of People Who Have Rubbed my Stomach: 1

I’ll try to smile for the camera next time! Maxi dresses are my favorite right now since my jeans are tight and push up against my stomach..it can be painful! Thankfully its still 80-90 degrees in Arizona and I’m still rocking my summer colors!
Keith and I right before our gender scan! We both were overly excited!!!
I was so excited I gave two thumbs up!
