German Chocolate Bars

22 Jun

Hey guys!  I hope you all are doing well!  Last week, while I was working, one of our trainers said he likes to mix coconut water with his chocolate protein powder because it tastes like he is drinking a German chocolate shake!  After our conversation, I remembered bars my Mom makes back in Minnesota that I haven’t had for years!  So, I rang her up and got the recipe and let me tell you, they are super easy to make, and definitely wont disappoint!

German Chocolate Bars

  • 2/3 cup of unsalted butter softened <—I used Earth Balance
  • 1 package Betty Crocker’s Super Moist German Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 1 cup Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1 Tub Betty Crockery Rich and Creamy Coconut Pecan Frosting
  • ¼ Cup Milk  <—I used Vanilla Almond Milk since that is what we had on hand

Preheat Oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray a 13 x9x2 inch pan and set aside. Add the softened butter and cake mix to a bowl and mix together in Kitchen Aid or by hand. Press half of the mixture to the bottom of the greased pan. Bake for 10 minutes.  Sprinkle chocolate chips over the baked layer. Add spoonfuls of frosting over chocolate chip layer. Stir remaining cake mixture and drop that by spoonfuls onto the frosting layer. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the cake portion is slightly dry to touch. Cool completely. Cover and refrigerate until firm.  Cut into tiny squares.  Makes about 48 small bars.

These bars are rich so make sure you don’t cut them too big! I’ll add pics soon!  : )

In other news, I’m working from home today since we are having the front door sanded and finished on the hottest day of the year 100 degrees!  Right now our entry way looks like this and our house is quickly heating up!  Plus, it is such a loud job!

Here are some of our eats from the past week!

Next up, Chicken Tortilla Soup recipe!  We made the most amazing chicken tortilla soup a few days ago, it is almost a cross between chicken chili and chicken tortilla soup!  It is so delicious and filling, and is stocked full with vegetables!
