Minnesota Recap

30 Sep

Keith and I were both born and raised in Minnesota.  All our of family and friends still live back there except for Keith’s parents, who live in Montana.  We were averaging about 2-3 trips back every year, but after our wedding (8/28/10), we decided to take a break from traveling for a while.  We had visited Minnesota five times in less than a year and had taken other trips as well and were frankly just sick of traveling (FYI- I hate to fly).  We knew we had a wedding to go to in September, so we waited to visit MN until the weekend of the wedding, so we could combine two trips into one.  We had such a great trip and are both really sad it is over so soon.  Between the wedding, shopping for the baby girl and visiting both of our families, the trip flew by.  I’m already excited to go back again and I can’t believe that the next time I’m in MN, I will be a mother!

Our trip started with a huge shopping spree.  I think we shopped about 7 hours that first full day we were there.  Nothing against where we live, but we seriously have zero good stores to shop at, especially when buying for a baby (we live in a retirement community).  I not only bought clothes for the little one, but also got spoiled by my mom with maternity clothes!  Thanks Mom!!! : )

About to head out shopping!!!

That night was spent at my sisters hanging out, eating dinner and spending time with my niece.

The following day, Keith and I braved the malls once again and shopped for about 4 hours.  Once again, I went back to my parents house with bags of clothes for the baby!

Friday night, we met up with Keith’s dad, brother and his wife for dinner at a new restaurant called Boulevard.  I had the organic Scottish salmon over butternut squash risotto.  It was so good!  I could eat it all over again as I sit here and type out this post!

About to head out to dinner!  My dad being goofy!

We did our usually morning routine, drink coffee with my Dad, workout, eat breakfast and shower by noon.  I don’t know why, but we can never get our act together until around 1pm while in Minnesota!  After we were ready, we headed to my favorite restaurant, Redstone and split the fondue as a snack while waiting for my friend Brooke to meet us there to head to the wedding.

Jerk Chicken Fondue-  Spicy, grilled, jerk-marinated chicken, sourdough croutons, apples, red grapes and smoked gouda fondue

The rest of the day was spent celebrating Britt and Joe’s beautiful day!  Keith and I both had so much fun!  By 11pm, I was exhausted and not feeling the best, so we snuck out of the wedding to head home to bed!

First dance! Check out her beautiful dress!  This is one of 3 pics I took at the wedding and the other two didn’t turn out.

Sunday, we got up bright and early and headed to the Vikings game.  Keith’s parents surprised us with second row tickets.  We had a blast!  By the end of the game, everyone was pretty wiped, so Keith and I headed back to my parents house to just take it easy and relax.

Sporting my new Vikings sweatshirt and if you look closely, you’ll see the bump!

Percy and AP, my two favorite players!

Monday was spent doing our morning MN ritual and then heading out shopping just a little bit.  I may or may not have bought the baby even more adorable items! 🙂

Monday night, we went to dinner at Redstone with my family, including my sister, niece and her boyfriend.  We all had so much fun!  We hadn’t planned on getting together, and threw plans together at the last minute and I’m so happy we did.  I ordered the fiesta pasta, it was a special that had onion, chicken, spinach noodles, bell peppers all in a Mexican creamy tequila sauce!  It. Was. So. Good!

We really need a new camera! ASAP!!!

We also had jumbo shrimp and flatbread as table appetizers before our meals came and the table split Banana Cream Pie- Toasted nut crust, banana custard, fresh bananas and whipped cream.

Buffalo Jumbo Shrimp-  Buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing

Tuesday, we did our morning MN ritual again but instead of hitting the gym, we got sidetracked with some more shopping.  By the time we were done, it was almost noon and we still hadn’t ate anything.  So we decided to skip the workout and eat lunch.  We actually ate lunch at The General Store, a place I had been browsing at.  I found a few cute holiday items!

Keith at lunch.  He ordered a lot and eat every last bite!  I took a pic because I couldn’t believe how much food he ordered!

We finished the day by meeting up with Keith’s parents, brother and sister in law at BLVD again.  This time I ordered a cheeseburger.  My body must have been craving iron! 🙂

Sadly, it was time to pack up and head back to Arizona.  😦

The trip went by way to quickly and I can’t wait for family to come visit us out in Arizona soon!  Although I miss MN like crazy, it felt good once we were finally home and reunited with out little man!

Week 20 Pregnancy Update- Cantaloupe

29 Sep

How Big is Baby?

Baby’s digestive system is busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. And, speaking of the diaper situation… baby’s genitals are now fully formed! (

And according to,

Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He’s also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby’s legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the “crown to rump” measurement. After 20 weeks, he’s measured from head to toe.)

He’s swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He’s also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you’ll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

How I’m Feeling Physically

This week was the week for the most noticeable growth of my stomach by far.  I am not joking when I say I woke up one morning and it was looking like it usually does by bed time.  It had got so big overnight.  I think I’m finally showing enough where people who look at me know I’m pregnant and just haven’t ate too much pasta!  I did purchase my first few maternity items this week and I am loving my new jeans!  They are so much more comfortable than my old jeans that to button would dig into my stomach a little bit!  I think the baby is happy not having to get squished every time I now wear jeans!  I’m still on the lookout for a cute pair of reasonably priced skinny jeans I can wear with boots.  I couldn’t find any back in Minnesota so I’m going to start searching the internet for a cute pair!  Any suggestions, let me know!  I also stocked up on tanks, sweaters and a few long sleeve shirts.  I feel much more confident wearing my new maternity shirts that fit my ever expanding stomach properly.  I didn’t buy maternity in the tanks or sweaters (cardigans) because I wanted to wear them again after pregnancy and think I wont have a problem squeezing my 40 week old stomach into them.  🙂

How I’m Feeling Emotionally

Emotionally I am good.  I can’t believe I’m already half way!  Wahoo!!!  I feel really good about my new clothes and also feel really good about the start on clothing we got for the baby while visiting family.  I seriously shopped up a storm.  There was no stopping me.  Another new development from week 20, we decided not to keep the baby’s name a secret anymore.  I accidently slipped up and my Mom heard the name and then we let her initials slip at a wedding we were attending and someone guessed her middle name in two seconds flat.  After that, I felt like her name was already out there and I didn’t need added stress by trying to keep it a secret.  So, probably in the next week, I’ll be announcing her name in a post!  I hope you all love it as much as I do!

Here’s a hint, her first name starts with a C and her middle name starts with an O!

Odd Ramblings

  • Weight Gained so Far:  about 8-10lbs depending on the day
  • Days Until my Next Appointment:  15
  • Cravings:  Fruit and Sugar.  Lots and lots of sugar!
  • Naps:  Nonexistent at this point.
  • Things I’m Most Looking Forward to:  Picking out and buying her nursery furniture!  I can’t wait to get her room done! Also, since we shopped so much, we had to send out two huge boxes in the mail and I can’t wait to get them so I can go through and hang all the baby clothes (I’m waiting to wash them until our next ultrasound to reconfirm she is in fact a girl)!

Week 20 Belly Photos

These are not the best, but they do show off the baby belly!  It’s full on now and I’m loving it!

Is that not huge?
