Week 30 Pregnancy Journal- Head of Cabbage

7 Dec

I love that I’m in the 30s!  Wahoo!  Less than 9 weeks to go before our little peanut arrives!  I’m all for having her early too, as long as she isn’t here before week 38!  That would mean less than 7 weeks until she could potentially be here.

My sister gave birth to her daughter really early, I think around six weeks early.  My mom had my sister about two weeks early and she had me (the second born) late.  If Cameryn sticks with the tradition of first born, she has a good chance of being early!  Or, if she sticks with my tradition, she will probably be late (I think I was around a week late).  If I had Cameryn when my sister had her daughter, we would have a baby in about 3 weeks!  So crazy to think about!

Other fun facts, my due date was Valentines day and I was born on the 22nd.  Cameryn’s due date is on the 8th of February but she could be born on the 14th!  My mind is constantly filled with baby thoughts and this is the stuff that floods my brain 24/7.

How Big is Baby?

She’s getting bigger!

Baby, fetus at 30 weeks - BabyCenter

According the,

As baby’s skin smoothes out, her brain just keeps getting more wrinkled. All those grooves and indentations increase surface area, meaning more room for that oh-so-essential brain tissue. She’s also adding some brawn — her grip is now strong enough to grasp a finger.

According to,

Your baby’s about 15.7 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. Her eyesight continues to develop, though it’s not very keen; even after she’s born, she’ll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she’ll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

According to,

Your baby’s permanent teeth have developed and are waiting in his gums. Your baby is very aware of his surroundings and his eyelids will open and close. He will even look around and turn toward light. We tend to think of the uterus as a dark place but the uterus actually can be light and dark depending on your environment. Your baby weighs almost three pounds now and is approximately 15.5 inches long.

You may be able to distinguish sleeping and waking cycles in your baby. Although it usually seems as if the baby wants to sleep while you are awake, and vice versa, this is not indicative of a sleepless newborn. Your baby can not only hear your voice, but can recognize it. Also, he has a grip so strong it is capable of gripping your finger. At this point, your baby may be practicing nursing as he sucks his thumb. He has lungs that are capable of breathing air, although medical help may be needed. About 9 out of 10 babies born now will survive.

How I’m Doing Physically

This past week was good overall.  It was a really busy with with company in town and I didn’t get in all my workouts, yoga and dog walks that I wanted to.  I did come close though!  Both yesterday and Sunday, I was extremely tired which is pretty unusual for me.  How I felt kind of reminded me of first trimester when I could seriously of slept 18+ hours a day.  On Sunday, I even napped during our beloved weekly Vikings game and I never nap during their games.  I just couldn’t help it and my eyes would not stay open at all.

I had my 30 week doctors appointment this past Friday and my doctor told me my stomach measurement was 29 (should be 30) and that I could stand to gain a little more weight.  She has mentioned she wants me to gain 30 pounds during my pregnancy and I am right on track for gaining that amount, so I’m not sure why she said I could stand to gain a few more pounds.  None of the nurses (when I don’t see the doctor) I’ve seen have mentioned my weight gain to be low so I’m not worried.  I’m well within the healthy range.  My goal pregnancy weight gain would be between 25-30lbs, but I’m not going to put too much pressure on myself if I do go over.  It’s all for a good cause and there’s no use stressing over it!  Like I’ve mentioned before my body is at a point where it is gaining whatever it wants each week no matter how healthy I eat or don’t eat.

I can definitely tell the baby is growing like a weed.  Every day I feel her little big kicks and all her crazy flipping she does.  It is still so much fun including Keith in experiencing her kicks and lately we’ve both have just enjoyed watching my bare stomach and you have see all her movements moving my skin.  It is so weird yet so incredible at the same time!  I’ll have to videotape her movements at some point because it is something I’ll treasure forever!

How I’m Feeling Emotionally

Emotionally I’m doing good.  I bought some more baby things this week.  It seriously is never ending.  I’m trying to space out purchases so I don’t feel like I’m spending megabucks all at once.  : )

I bought her some pink and dark pink closet baskets at Target for both her bedroom closet and also for the bathroom.  I also bought her some baby bath products like shampoo and lotion, along with a Boppy Lounger.  I was going to buy it in pink, but then decided to buy the more green and natural colored one.  My plan with that kind of stuff is buy the more neutral color so incase baby number two is a boy, he wont be stuck with all pink stuff and we wont need to rebuy the things we already have.  I also picked her up a couple books at Barnes and Noble.  I think reading to babies is really important and since our B&N is going out of business in a few weeks (I’m so sad) I thought it would be a good idea to start her book collection.  We’ll only have Target to get books from unless we order them online, which stinks.

Boppy lounger and two small loads of laundry I did on onesies and a few blankets we got from my mom.

Target baskets, I’m planning on putting toys in one, probably diaper stuff in one, burp cloths and swaddle blankets in another and then will still have one more to fill up.  I love extra storage and since I’m a neat freak I love making everything look put together!

Her room is still a huge work in progress.  It is still quite bare!

At our doctors appointment last week, we got to schedule out 3D ultrasound and we are so excited!  It is in a couple hours and we are so antsy to see what our precious baby girl looks like.  I’m also excited to confirm she is still a baby girl so I can start removing tags and washing all her clothes.  I just wish her nursery furniture would arrive.  It got shipped our form Restoration Hardware over two weeks ago (we ordered it about 4 weeks ago) and we still haven’t heard from the delivery company.  I figured I’d give them one more week before I call to see what’s going on with our order.  I can’t wait to put all her freshly cleaned baby clothes away in her dresser and really get to organizing her stuff.
