Weekly Pregnancy Update: Week 17

Hey guys!  How was your weekend?  Sorry to bombard you with yet another baby pregnancy post, but today I turn 18 weeks, so that means it’s time for the weekly update!  I promise I have lots of non-baby and non-pregnancy related posts planned for this week!  Smile

Baby is now the size of an onion!

Week 17 Baby Developments:

Your baby’s skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she’s around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.

Starting to feel a bit off balance? As your belly grows, your center of gravity changes, so you may begin to occasionally feel a little unsteady on your feet. Try to avoid situations with a high risk of falling. Wear low-heeled shoes to reduce your risk of taking a tumble; trauma to your abdomen could be dangerous for you and your baby. You’ll also want to be sure to buckle up when you’re in a car — keep the lap portion of the seat belt under your belly, drawn snugly across your hips, and also use the shoulder harness, which should fit snugly between your breasts.

You may also notice your eyes becoming drier. Using over-the-counter lubricating drops may help. If your contact lenses become uncomfortable, try wearing them for shorter stretches of time. If you still have discomfort, switch to glasses until after you give birth. (babycenter.com)

My Thoughts:

Week 17 wasn’t all that bad for me.  It went by quick and was pretty uneventful.  The only real pregnancy symptom I felt was I was really tired a couple of days.  I mean so tired I made dinner and then couldn’t eat and had to go lay down.  I ended up going to bed at like 6pm that night!  Other developments, I’m starting to feel the little flutters and kicks a bit more constant.  I was feeling them and then they just went away or would go away for days.  Now almost everyday I’m feeling at least the little flutters.  I’m getting excited for them to get bigger and stronger!  Smile

 

Oh, and I started working out again in week 17!  Yay!  I was so sick first trimester and was just getting back into the swing of things when we had to go to Montana and then I got a bad cold.  So I’m so happy to be sweating it out again!  Smile  I don’t really feel like myself unless I’m eating healthy and working out so after 17 weeks of being pregnant I’m really feeling like my old self again!

Random Facts:

  • Weight Gained: 2-3lbs
  • Food Cravings:  Tropical smoothies made with orange juice or an orange and coconut water.  Still loving the dried unsulfured organic mango!  I can’t get enough of them!  Mushrooms, any kinds.  I love mushroom soup, sautéed garlic mushrooms, raw mushrooms, mushroom pasta.  You name it and I want it!  Weird, right?  Lastly, light foods like salads with blue, feta or gorgonzola cheese sounds amazing too.  I’m trying to slowly wean my family from consuming any dairy products so this makes it hard.
  • Food Aversions:  Nothing really off the top of my head right now, but meat doesn’t sound appealing a lot of the time. 
  • Thing I most looking forward to:  My sister and niece coming next Monday for Thanksgiving!  Yay!
  • Days Until Gender Scan:  8 more days!  I’m so excited for this!  Right now, I’m predicting a boy!

Looking at the above pics, all I can think is I really need a tan and highlights (which the hair will be fixed on Thursday)!
